Living in Santos, Lisbon

LX1 Coliving is located on Rua das Janelas Verdes in Santos, one of Lisbon’s most elegant streets. Between the Tagus River, major museums and the best neighbourhood restaurants, it is the perfect base to live the city for 6 to 12 months or longer, in an Art Nouveau building with a tiled façade.

Why live in Lisbon?

Lisbon has become one of Europe’s most sought-after cities for students, digital nomads and international professionals. And for good reason.

  • Sun and sea. One of Europe’s sunniest capitals, with mild winters and the Cascais beaches about 40 minutes away by train from Santos.
  • Safety. Portugal ranks as the 7th most peaceful country in the world in the 2025 Global Peace Index.
  • An international city. English is widely spoken, and the community of Erasmus students, expats and entrepreneurs is one of the liveliest in Europe.
  • Quality of life. Food, culture, outdoor living and a calmer pace than in other major capitals.

Why choose coliving?

Coliving brings together the best of both worlds: the privacy of your own room and the life of a shared home, without the hassle of a traditional lease.

  • Arrive and settle in. The apartment is furnished and fully equipped: no furniture to buy, no electricity, water or internet contracts to set up.
  • All inclusive. One single rent covers bills, high-speed internet and weekly cleaning of the shared areas.
  • Flexibility. Stays from 6 to 12 months or longer, which you can extend if you want to stay.
  • A community. Seven residents at most, to meet people without giving up your peace and quiet.
  • A controlled budget. In a neighbourhood where a furnished one-bedroom flat often costs more than €1,100 a month, coliving gives you access to Santos for much less.
  • Boutique hotel comfort. Original stucco ceilings, pine floors, azulejo tiles and interiors designed by an architect.

Santos, one of Lisbon’s most sought-after neighbourhoods

Once an aristocratic district by the river, Santos is now known as the Santos Design District: interior design shops, design and architecture schools, galleries and studios sit alongside 18th-century palaces turned into embassies and boutique hotels. It is a flat, walkable neighbourhood between Lapa, Madragoa and Cais do Sodré.

A safe and quiet neighbourhood

Rua das Janelas Verdes is a residential and diplomatic street. The Embassy of Luxembourg stands at number 43, almost opposite the building, and the French Embassy occupies the Palácio de Santos, just a few steps away. A calm setting, ideal for studying, working and resting.

Museums and culture on your doorstep

The National Museum of Ancient Art, housed in a 17th-century palace on the same street, holds some of the greatest treasures of Portuguese and European art, from the Saint Vincent Panels to Bosch’s Temptations of Saint Anthony. Its garden, with a café overlooking the Tagus, is one of the city’s best-kept secrets. Nearby: the Puppet Museum, Teatro A Barraca, the neighbourhood’s design galleries and, a short tram ride away, MAAT, LX Factory and Belém.

Restaurants, cafés and neighbourhood life

Rua da Esperança, a few minutes’ walk away, is one of Lisbon’s liveliest food streets: Taberna da Esperança and Petiscaria Ideal for Portuguese petiscos, Maluca for creative cooking and natural wines, Invicta Madragoa for seafood, or the Insaciável wine bar. Varina da Madragoa has been serving salt cod for over 30 years, the doBeco bakery and Pastelaria Apolo XI take care of breakfast, and the Mercado da Ribeira (Time Out Market) is about a 20-minute walk away.

The Tagus at the end of the street

The riverfront is just a few minutes away. The riverside cycle path and promenade connect Santos to Cais do Sodré and Praça do Comércio on one side, and to Alcântara and Belém on the other: perfect for running, cycling or watching the sunset. Jardim 9 de Abril, next to the museum, offers one of the most beautiful views over the Tagus and the port.

Well connected to the rest of the city

  • Santos train station (Cascais line): Cascais and the beaches in about 40 minutes.
  • Trams 15E (Belém, Praça da Figueira) and 25E (Estrela, Baixa), and bus 714.
  • Cais do Sodré (metro, trains and ferries across the river) about a 15 to 20-minute walk away.
  • Chiado and Bairro Alto about a 20-minute walk away.
